CONTENT

The tour of this appealing city will start crossing the bridge to arrive to the island of Ortigia, the first Syracuse (#4) settlement. Stroll down the cobbled streets of the picturesque old town with its intricate Baroque architecture, to see the Apollonion, the Fountain of Arethusa up to the majestic cathedral and finally to Maniace Castle, on the southern tip of the island. Return to the mainland to explore the Archaeological Park and visit the Greek theatre, one of the finest and largest of its kind, as well as the Roman amphitheatre.

• Comfortable walking shoes recommended. Please dress appropriately when visiting places of worship (no skirts or bare shoulders). It is highly recommended to bring sunglasses and sunhats during the summer months as it gets quite hot.

• Restrictions: Maniace Castle open only in the morning. The Archaeological Park is open from 09am until 1 hour before dusk. The first Sunday of each month the availability of the tour has to be checked due to the special events that could be organized in the museums.
