Reflecting on the Strait named after it, Messina is located on the northeastern tip of Sicily, facing the Calabrian coast. The remarkable past of Messina is testified by several historic buildings as Palazzo Zanca (the town hall), the Land Registry Building, the Customs Palace and the Chamber of Commerce Palace. Not to be missed is the carousel of the Cathedral belltower: at noon a complex system of lever mechanisms and counterweights gives life to the golden statues that reprsent an allegory of man’s soul seeking God.
