CONTENT

See the beautifully preserved ruins of Ostia Antica, Rome’s ancient seaport. Founded in the 4th century B.C., Ostia was prominent as the domestic landing for cargo boats. By the 2nd century A.D., it became a flourishing commercial center inhabited by upwards of 100,000 people, whose apartment buildings, taverns and grocery shops are still intact.
Visit the Republican Stores, the Thermal baths of Neptune, and pass through the Piazzale delle Corporazioni to reach the Theatre, a well-preserved theatre erected during the reign of Augustus. Take a stroll through the Street of Diana with its balconies, and its Thermopolium, the old restaurant of the Roman period.
