Combine a visit to Florence’s most important monuments and art galleries and to the University town of Pisa. In Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance, magnificently located on the Arno river, against an amphitheatre of the Apennines hills, a short pause is made at Piazzale Michelangelo for a spectacular view of Florence and its surrounding countryside. See 14th century Ponte Vecchio and its glittering jewellers´ windows, visit the Uffizi Gallery with its priceless treasures by Giotto, Botticelli, Raphael, Da Vinci, Michelangelo.
Pause by nearby Palazzo Vecchio, the present day city hall and see Cellini´s dramatic Perseus under the Loggia dei Lanzi, a unique open air museum.
A short drive to the Accademia Gallery, home to Michelangelo´s David, where a brief visit will focus on Michelangelo´s works. See the spectacular Piazza del Duomo with the early 15th century cathedral, the Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore, the 4th largest in the world, with its beautiful green and white marble exterior, stunning dome and Giotto´s amazing bell tower. Opposite the Cathedral, the Baptistery with its magnificent “Gates of Paradise” and golden mosaics.
Some free time for shopping may be allocated.
The scenic drive to Pisa takes just over an hour. In Pisa you will make a short stop in the world famous Piazza dei Miracoli to photograph the amazing Leaning Tower.
