Caserta is known as the ´Versailles of Naples´ because of the Royal Palace – Reggia di Caserta, one of the most sumptuous buildings in Italy. Erected by the Bourbon King Charles III in the 18th century, the Royal Palace Apartments have over 1.200 rooms with handmade chandeliers, richly gilded frescos, tapestries and historical artifacts, while the 3 km long extraordinary Park and Gardens are crowned by the great cascade, a 75 meters high waterfall which can be clearly seen from the palace.
