CONTENT

Your tour starts with an outside visit of the Basilica of Santa Croce, once the home of Michelangelo and which now houses his tomb. Some of the master’s earliest drawings reproduced figures from the frescoes painted by the great Giotto at Santa Croce. Proceed to the Opera del Duomo, where the sculptor’s haunting, unfinished “Pieta” is displayed. Next, visit the Medici Chapels and the New Sacristy of San Lorenzo. Here Michelangelo carved the famous Medici tombs, with their enigmatic, reclining figures of “Dawn, Dusk, Night and Day”.

• Skip-the-line not available for the Duomo Complex. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. This is quite a tiring tour and will require a good level of fitness in order to see everything within the allotted time. Please dress appropriately when entering a place of worship (no shorts or bare shoulders).
• Days: Mon-Wed-Thu-Fri-Sat
• Restrictions: It is not possible to access the places of worship during religious celebrations. The first Sunday of each month availability has to be confirmed due to specials event that could be organized in the museum.
Access to the Churches will be restricted on Sundays and Holidays for religious celebrations; Santa Croce Basilica is closed on Tuesdays, Sunday and Holidays mornings, January 1, grJune 13, October 4, December 25, 26. Medici Chapels are closed on Tuesdays and on the first, third and fourth Sunday of each month
