Trastevere and Villa Farnesina tour, 1-7 pax

CONTENT

Walk through the streets of this characteristic neighbourhood where Roman folklore is still alive, where the laundry is still hung out to dry from one window to another.
Stop to visit the beautiful church of Santa Maria in Trastevere, probably the first church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, its facade all aglitter with ancient mosaics.  And then enjoy the visit to Villa Farnesina, built in the 16th century with all the lavishness and splendor of the period. This Renaissance palace was designed by Baldassare Peruzzi (1508-22) for the banker Agostino Chigi and decorated by famous artists, including Raphael, Giulio Romano, Sebastiano del Piombo, Peruzzi himself and Sodoma. Here Popes, cardinals, princes, diplomats, artists and men of letters were entertained in princely fashion. After the villa you will cross the Tiber on the famous Sistine bridge from where it is possible to admire the Cupolone (St. Peter´s dome), and walking along the historical via Giulia you will finish the tour in Piazza Farnese with the imposing palace built for the Farnese family by Michelangelo and other architects.
